Between 8 and 9 UN troops have been killed
At least eight UN peacekeepers have been killed in an ambush by militiamen in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The attack happened in the morning and it is believed that the Lendus ethnic militia known as FNI are likely to be behind the attack. The peacekeepers are all believed to be from Bangladesh and are in the Ituri area of the Congo along with 4,800 other peacekeepers from several contries including Pakistan, Morocco and Nepal. A UN spokesperson has said "There are at least eight dead and some still missing" indicating that it is possible that more have been killed or injured. The spokesperson has added that "Lendus are not people that take hostages, they just kill."
